Michele Dunaway
Michele Dunaway wanted to be a writer ever since she was in first grade. Even later in life, she found herself writing.”I published my first stories using my sister’s manual typewriter,” she says. “I wrote love stories and married myself and my sister to the cutest boys in the neighborhood. My sister wrote westerns and killed everyone. We had a great time.”
She still has romance novels in her basement from when she was in high school and college, all “scrawled out in my handwriting and written long before I knew anything about weaving plot, setting and character.” Well, she certainly knows something now.
In 1988, Michele set a goal at her five-year high school reunion to be published by 2000. In August 1999, she sold her first novel to Harlequin American Romance. “Writing for Harlequin has always been a dream of mine, and words can’t express the elation I felt when I heard they were buying my novel,” she says. She received the good news on the phone at the high school where she teaches English. Her screams for joy brought the school nurse on the run to investigate.
When she is not writing or teaching, Michele maintains five acres in the hills surrounding Labadie, Missouri, and raises her two little girls.
